A UK visit visa refusal is frustrating, and the £135 fee is not refunded. But a refusal is not a ban. Most people who are refused can apply again, and a new application that answers the refusal reasons properly has a much better chance.
In this guide
First, read your refusal letter carefully
Your refusal letter lists the reasons the officer was not satisfied. Every point in it is something your next application must answer. It also tells you whether you can ask for an administrative review.
Can you appeal?
- Usually not. UK appeals cover decisions such as protection and human rights claims. A visit visa refusal is not on that list.
- Administrative review, only if your letter says so. If your letter says you can ask for one, you must apply within 28 days of the decision, and it costs £80.
- Most people reapply. There is no fixed waiting period for a new UK visit visa application.
The most common reasons for refusal
The officer was not convinced you would leave the UK at the end of your visit. A job, business, family or studies in Pakistan need to be clearly shown.
Large unexplained deposits, or a balance that does not match your income. See our bank statement guide.
Different dates, salaries or employers across the form, letters and bank statements.
The reason for the visit, the plan or the cost of the trip was not explained well enough.

How to make a stronger new application
- 1Answer every refusal reason
Go through the letter point by point. For each one, add evidence that deals with it directly.
- 2Fix the money story
Bank statements should show where your money comes from. Explain any large deposit with documents.
- 3Prove your ties
Employer letter on headed paper with your role, salary and length of employment, plus leave approval. Business owners: registration and tax documents.
- 4Declare the refusal
Visa forms, including the UK’s, ask about previous refusals. Always answer honestly.

Questions people ask
Will I get my visa fee back after a refusal?
No. The UK does not refund the application fee if your visa is refused.
How long should I wait before reapplying?
There is no fixed waiting period. Reapply when you can answer the refusal reasons with new or better evidence.
Does a UK refusal affect other visas?
Many visa forms ask about previous refusals, so declare it honestly. A refusal alone does not stop you getting other visas, but your new applications should be strong and consistent.
Can I ask for an administrative review?
Only if your refusal letter says you can. If so, apply within 28 days of the decision; it costs £80.
Visa rules change often. We confirm the current requirements and fees before you pay. A visa does not guarantee entry.
